From 16th December 2009 until 10th February 2010, the best opportunity for any strong potential PhD research student who wishes to work with me is the IRCSET EMBARK Initiative. I am particularly intersted in having one or more PhD students in the area of Earth Climate Thermodynamics. Such a student should have a very strong academic track record, be highly motivated, be capable of writing clear and concise technical reports and publication quality journal atricles, be strong in the area of mathematics and have an excellent knowledge of engineering thermodynamics. The research would involve the development and validation of detailed simulation models for the thermodynamic processes of the Earth's climate.
Prof. Jim McGovern would be happy to discuss possible research areas with well-qualified applicants, with a view to the applicants specifying Prof. McGovern as their proposed supervisor and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Dublin Institute of Technology as the proposed research location.
Potential applicants who are interested in working with Prof. Jim McGovern and who wish to do research in an area that is also of interest to him are urged to make contact with him. Generally an applicant should have or expect to obtain a 1st class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related discipline.
Some research areas that are of interest to Prof. Jim McGovern are:
